Cueva "Actun Tunichil Muknal"

One of Belize's many archaeological sites, it is characterised by original pottery and skeletons of an ancient civilisation. In the Cueva Actun Tunichil Muknal (or ATM cave for short) is the gateway to Xibalba, the Mayan underworld. This cave contains ceramics and human skeletons that have merged with the cave walls.      This excursion requires a good degree of fitness. The first visitors will take a 45-minute hike through the rainforest. The hike crosses three streams. There is a river flowing through the cave. To enter the cave, you will have to swim to the mouth of the cave. It is necessary to swim for a distance of 33 feet (10 m), in water that is 16.6 feet (5 m) deep.   Mountain Pine Reach Forest Reserve The Mountain Pine Reach Forest Reserve is one of the great natural attractions of Belize. It was the first reserve created in the country with the intention of protecting native forests and ecosystems. Created in 1944, the Pine Ridge Mountain Forest Reserve is the oldest and most protected area in Belize, it is located in the Cayo District, 57 km from Belize City. The reserve consists mainly of Honduran pines, a species of pine from the Caribbean. The reserve is characterized by its deep ravines, large granite outcrops, rivers, and landscapes. When you're in Belize, you definitely need to try "Rice and Beans" that is the most common dish in this place and also in the Caribbean.  Red beans are cooked with rice along with spices and (optional) hot sauce to create this simple but delicious dish.  Black Dinna Chimole or locally known as “Black Dinna” in Belize is a succulent and delicious black soup that is enjoyed by many Belizeans throughout the country. The soup is easy to make and the black recado that is used in the preparation gives the food its black color. Once you have tasted it, you will always crave it. Chimole/ Black Dinna Ingredients: 1/4 cup black recado 1 chicken (cut into parts) 2 tablespoons cilantro ( chopped) 2 tomatoes (diced) 2 tablespoons malher ( chicken bouillon) 3 potatoes in cubes 3 to 4 fresh tomatoes 1/2 onion (sliced) 3 garlic cloves (mashed) Salt and pepper 6 boiled eggs Method: Season the chicken with salt and pepper and brown in a hot pot with little oil. Once browned, add enough water to cover the chicken and then add the onions and garlic and potatoes, Cook, over low heat for 30 minutes.
